The 9th Precision Metrology Workshop was held from August 19 to 21 at Dongwon Jangbogo Hall, Pukyong National University, in Busan. Meter-Lab Inc. sponsored the workshop, along with the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), the Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI), the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI), Pukyong National University, and the Korean Society for Precision Engineering (KSPE). Meter-Lab researchers also played a visible role on the organizing committee. Dr. Jaeseok Bae served as vice chair. Dr. Jungjae Park, Dr. Joonyoung Lee, and Dr. Jonghan Jin helped run the committee's day-to-day work. As several institutions built the program together, Meter-Lab took an active part from the early planning stage. The workshop opened with registration at 1:10 p.m. on the 19th and ran through noon on the 21st. Day one began with a keynote on low-noise voltage measurement by Dr. H. Lee (KRISS). On the morning of day two, Dr. J. Jung (KRISS) spoke on precision measurement in clinical and food analysis. That afternoon, Professor Emeritus M. Cha (Pusan National University) gave a special talk titled "Kepler, the Father of Curve Fitting." Over the three days, the program included two keynotes, one special talk, and 14 invited talks. Among the invited speakers were two from Meter-Lab: Director Jungjae Park and Director Jonghan Jin. Director Jungjae Park presented "Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy for Ultra-High Reflectivity Measurement" at 3:30 p.m. on the 19th. Director Jonghan Jin, Meter-Lab's CTO, presented "Optical Metrology using Precision Spectral Interferometry" at 10:30 a.m. on the 20th. Each talk was followed by long rounds of questions and discussion. Attendees came from a wide range of institutions, including KRISS, KRRI, KOPTI, Pukyong National University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Seoul National University of Science and Technology, and the discussions reflected that range. As the sessions moved from one topic to the next, the audience's interests shifted with them. It is rare for so many institutions working in precision metrology to gather for three days of talks and discussion in one place. For Meter-Lab, taking part as a sponsor, an organizer, and a presenter was a valuable opportunity and experience. We look forward to just as much lively exchange at the 10th workshop.
